NBA and College Basketball Betting
Watching NBA games is quite exciting, especially for die-hard basketball fans. Betting on the games you are watching makes the games even more exciting! When betting on the NBA, you can place wagers online through one of many reputable online sports betting sites, which are also known as sports books or online sports books. These online betting sites provide a listing of games, which is known as the betting line. From there, you can choose what game or games you wish to bet. An NBA betting line might look something like the example that follows:
Los Angeles Lakers +1.5
Dallas Mavericks -1.5
Memphis Grizzlies -1
Washington Wizards +1
You can bet on either of the games in the NBA betting line. If you were to bet on the Lakers, you notice that they are listed at +1.5. This means that the Lakers are getting one and a half points from the Mavs. Thus, the Lakers get 1.5 points added to their final score, so if they win the game outright by beating the Mavericks, or they lose by a point – those who have bet on the Lakers will win the bet. On the other hand, NBA bettors who have wagered on the Mavs are spotting the Lakers 1.5 points. Thus, the Mavs must win by a margin greater than 1.5 points in order for the people who have bet on the Mavericks in this game to be paid. Bets such as these are known as point spread betting. Point spread bets pay even money, unless the betting line states otherwise.
The same logic that applied to college basketball betting as well as the Lakers and Mavericks game stands true with the Grizzlies and Wizards game. However, you will notice the Grizzlies are spotting Washington a single point. This means that if Memphis wins by exactly one point, the game (for betting line purposes) ends in a draw. When the score line is tied at the end of the game for betting purposes, the wager is considered a push and no money changes hands. In fact, all bets are refunded to both Memphis and Washington if the betting score line ended in a tie. Memphis bettors are paid even money if they defeat the Wizards by more than one point, and the Wizards bettors are paid even money on their wagers if they defeat Memphis. The actual score cannot end in a tie though, so there is no possibility for the Wizards to tie in this match up in the actual score line.
